The Golden Rules of Scalp Care!

I’m often asked if there is a definitive trick to keeping one’s scalp healthy at all times. While there is no one magic solution, there is a set of what I like to call ‘the golden rules’ of scalp care that I would advice everyone to follow. These are simple changes you can make to your daily routines that could end up having surprising results.

To begin with I would advice girls to increase their intake of essential fatty acids found in oily fish or avocados to improve the general condition of the skin. I can’t stress enough how important a role diet plays in keeping your hair in good condition. Drinking two litres of water daily will go a long way.

Moisture is just as critical! So avoid an overly warm or dry bedroom as this will zap your skin of moisture. Alternate the use of hot and cold water on your scalp to increase the circulation and prevent dead cells from forming. And try to massage rather than scratch your scalp when shampooing hair.

Something ironic I’ve come across during my career is that as soon as women start noticing hair in the sink or shower drain they panic and decrease the number of times they shampoo each week. Oddly enough this will not help at all and is one of the biggest mistakes that women can make. With proper shampooing & scalp care early intervention can help decrease hair shedding.

Healthy hair needs a healthy scalp; most girls don't realize how delicate scalp is - it's really an extension of the skin on your face"
