I’ve always believed that a little attention to detail can go a long way in making sure that your hair always had the right bounce and volume. Nutrition is often overlooked but a good diet helps not only the body from the neck down but the body of your locks as well. If your hair tends to get oily you might have to wash it more often since oil weighs hair down. If it's very dry shampoo less but condition and rinse hair regularly. These are the basics that lead to a good foundation - if you can get these right, it will be easy to maintain bounce and volume. A good cut is also important. If it takes your hair dresser 45 minutes to style your hair after he or she cuts it the chances are you're going to have a hard time maintaining the look. So make sure you pick a style that’s easy for you to maintain.

Backstage Volume Tricks

Nothing can give you great volume like a good shampoo, great hair products and a healthy diet. But when you’re backstage at a fashion show and there’s very little time you have no choice but to pull out the old bag of tricks. So if you’re in a hurry, here’s what you can do for some of that ‘instant volume’. When I’m backstage and time is short I usually have the model flip her hair forward and I spray the roots with hairspray and then I have her flip it back over and instant volume is achieved. A quick backcombing or "teasing" in the area where the model needs the volume also works. I just take a section from a section that needs extra volume, comb it slightly forward and from the roots up backcomb it.
